Initially founded to provide coaching for children of various age groups, something that the club continues to provide today, a senior side was established when the parents decided to form a team. Formed in 1971, there are now over 30 teams of all ages under the Barnes Eagles name.

Founded in 1991 following an advert in a gay magazine for like-minded people to play football with, Stonewall FC became the UK’s first gay football club. Alongside various honours in the Middlesex County Football League, they have also had victory in the EuroGames and the Gay Games.

The ground at Barn Elms used to include the manor of the Archbishop of Canterbury, where Queen Elizabeth I would visit to see her Secretary of State. Several other notable names have frequented the area, including Samuel Pepys and the composer Handel.
